A teenager on trial for murder allegedly asked another youth if he wanted to see a fight before a 16-year-old boy was fatally stabbed.
The 15-year-old is accused of killing Kayden Moy at Irvine Beach on May 17, 2025.
A 17-year-old boy told police the 15-year-old arrived at the beach after finding out he had been punched by Kayden’s friend Jay Mooney, or McGarry, 18, regarding a dispute over a football that was kicked into the sea.
It was stated that the 15-year-old, who was with two other youths, later said to the 17-year-old, “Do you want to see a fight?”
The 17-year-old claimed he left the scene after seeing the trio throw rocks at Kayden’s group and later heard people “screaming.”
The 15-year-old is in the dock at the High Court in Glasgow with Jay Stewart, 18, who is also accused of murdering Kayden.
The charge says Stewart and the 15-year-old, while acting with Cole Turley, 18, pursued Kayden and caused him to fall to the ground before they repeatedly stabbed him to the body.
It is alleged that Stewart and the other teenager had previous ill-will and malice towards him.
Turley pleaded guilty before trial to the murder charge. The two teens on trial have lodged a special defence of incrimination against Turley.
The trial had previously heard that Turley, Stewart and the 15-year-old were part of The Murray Boys gang of East Kilbride, Lanarkshire. Kayden and his friends which includes Mr Mooney were stated to be members of the rival Himshie gang.
Jurors watched recorded police and court evidence given by the 17-year-old boy on Tuesday.
He claimed that he had went to the beach with friends that day and listened to music.
The 17-year-old stated that a ball belonging to Mr Mooney came towards his group.
He said: “One of us in the group kicked the ball in the sea.
“They seen that and came to us – Jay Mooney was drunk and angry.
“He pushed me and punched me on the left side of my head and I fell on rocks.”
Mr Mooney is stated to have went back to his group of friends. Two of Mr Mooney’s pals are said to have went over to the 17-year-old to apologise to him for the attack.
The 17-year-old claimed that the 15-year-old on trial, who he knew from the East Kilbride area, sent him a text message regarding the attack.
The witness claimed that the 15-year-old later arrived at the beach and met with him alongside Turley and Stewart.
The 15-year-old is claimed to have said: “We are here to fight the Jay Mooney group.
“Do you want to see a fight?”
The 17-year-old said he replied: “Yes, I want to see a fight.”
The trio were claimed to have separated from the 17-year-old and threw rocks at Mr Mooney’s group.
The 17-year-old claimed he “needed to get out of here” and left the area with his friend.
He said: “Five minutes later we heard proper screaming, loud screaming and a black boy walked up to us and did a hand gesture ‘he has just been cut open, he has been stabbed’.
“We were shocked, that must have been to do with him.”
The 17-year-old claimed he was not aware it was Kayden who was stabbed until someone else told him later that day. He also claimed that he did not know Kayden personally before the incident.
The 17-year-old earlier told jurors that on the day, Mr Mooney had posted a picture of him and another boy, whom he presumed to be Kayden, on Instagram.
He stated that Mr Mooney did a gun sign while the other boy did a Murray Boys sign.
When asked what this meant, the 17-year-old replied: “F*** the Murray. Like shooting.”
The trial continues before Judge Lord Scott.
