A man is accused of murdering his mother by strangling and hitting her.
Craig Haley, 36, allegedly killed Mary Haley at a house in Hamilton, Lanarkshire on February 8 this year.
Prosecutors claim the 75-year-old was punched and kicked as well as being hit with a “blunt implement”, causing her to fall.
The charge further states Haley then dragged the pensioner along the floor and stairs.
It is said he grabbed her by the neck and restricted his mum’s breathing by “manual strangulation”.
Haley is separately accused of being threatening and abusive towards Mrs Haley between March 12, 2019, and the day of the alleged murder.
This includes claims he demanded money from the OAP and caused her to flee from her home.
He is further charged with stealing a number of items from the house.
Haley made no plea as he appeared video-link for a short hearing at the High Court in Glasgow on Monday.
No trial was set as judge Lord Weir adjourned the case until next month.
