Murder inquiry launched after man found dead in Glasgow flat

A murder inquiry has been launched after the body of a man was found inside a flat on Wednesday morning.

Police were called to the address on Glasgow’s Monar Street, in the Possil area, at around 9.20am. James Jarvis was found dead inside.

His family are aware and have asked for privacy, Police Scotland said.

A major investigation has been launched and officers are working to establish the 55-year-old’s movements before he was found.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who saw anything in the area to get in touch.

Police are also carrying out enquiries in nearby Auckland Street where a car belonging to the man was found at around 7.20am the same day.

Detective chief inspector Graham McCreadie, of Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Jarvis’ family at what is a very difficult time and they have asked for their privacy to be respected.

“It is vital we find out answers for them and trace whoever is responsible as soon as possible. I am appealing to anyone with information who has not already spoken to officers to get in touch.

“If you have private CCTV or dash-cam footage relating to Monar Street, Auckland Street and the surrounding area, please check to see if you have captured anything that could assist with our enquiries.

“We are keen to speak to anyone who saw Mr Jarvis’s car – a black VW Golf – that was found on Auckland Street and how it got there.

“This is a challenging investigation and any piece of information, no matter how small or insignificant you might think it is, could prove vital so I urge people to make contact with us.

“Anyone who can assist with our investigation is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 0638 of Wednesday, March 5, 2025, or make a call anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

“An online portal has also been set up where members of the public can submit information directly to detectives.”
