Plans have been lodged to build a new £2m bridge over the A77 in South Ayrshire.
If approved, the pedestrian and cycle crossing will link Ayr’s Maybole Road to new housing on fields in Corton.
Only once the crucial bridge is approved can work on the new housing development begin.
Designs lodged by Allanvale Homes (Prestwick) show the bridge is to be illuminated with white lighting at night.
The Corton development – which has been dubbed South East Ayr – was originally approved in 2014 but still has not happened.
It suffered a setback when supermarker giant Sainsbury’s pulled out in 2016. There were plans for more than 700 homes and even a school.
