Police ScotlandNine suspects have gone on trial accused of a violent revenge plot following the killing of a man.
The crimes are said to have been sparked after the death of Omar Sadiq on September 15, 2020.
The indictment states the killing of Mr Sadiq was carried out by a man listed as Hashim Uddin.
It is claimed the nine men – including the 32-year-old’s brother Kashif Sadiq – then conspired together and with others to engage in criminal conduct to assault, endanger life and murder Uddin as well as his “relatives and associates”.
A string of attempted murder accusations lists a number of alleged petrol bomb attacks at different properties in Glasgow.
There are also claims of bids to kill named men in knife or machete assaults.
Among other allegations are placing a tracking device on cars to try to monitor the movements of certain individuals, as well as accusations of setting fire to vehicles.
The charge spans between September 15 and December 14, 2020, mainly featuring a number of addresses in the city.
Kashif Sadiq, 34, Robert Daniel, 36, David Doherty or Docherty, 37, David McShane, 40, William McNally, 43, Michael Kennaway, 34, James Blakely, 31, Tony Robertson, 28, and James Bennett, 37, deny the accusations they each face.
The trial, before judge Lord Mulholland, started with the reading of agreed evidence between the prosecution and defence lawyers.
Jurors were told that Omar Sadiq was stabbed by Hasim Uddin within the attacker’s home on September 15, 2020. He later died.
Uddin was traced by police on October 1 of that year.
He was convicted of culpable homicide in May 2021 and eventually sentenced to six years.
The court further heard of two WhatsApp messages sent to a named man by his nephew on September 20, 2020, days after the killing.
One showed a screenshot of a Facebook post along with a photo of Uddin.
It read: “£25,000 reward. To anyone that knows the whereabouts of this Jimmy Saville looking mother*****r.
“Anyone that knows, knows the money is there. Police aint doing something.
“Lets get together and do it.”
The second was a further Facebook posting and a snap of Uddin again mentioning the “reward”.
It also included: “Speed up the process. You want a killer on your streets???”
The man then got another message from his relative, which contained a Snapchat post.
There was a photo of the nephew in the company of Uddin and Omar Sadiq.
The text read: “Anyone know or heard anything. Let us know and the police.
“We need closure and Omer to rest in peace. My wee bro needs to rest plz share this.
“There’s £25,000 reward anyone who tells the police. These 2 motherfuckers have got it coming.
“This is the full picture. Just shows you u can be sitting with your murderer and not even know it. Can’t trust anyone”.
