Fans to receive refunds after Olly Murs walks out Glasgow show 20 minutes into set

The X Factor star revealed on Instagram he was struggling with his voice after pulling the plug on Thursday's gig.

X Factor star Olly Murs has said he is “so sorry” after walking off stage during a show in Glasgow due to a respiratory infection.

The singer pulled the plug on his 14,000-capacity OVO Hydro show on Thursday evening, walking off stage after six songs and around 20 minutes into the set.

It has now been confirmed that all those who had tickets will be able to claim refunds from their point of purchase.

An emotional Murs took to Instagram following the gig, claiming his voice “sounded rubbish” and offering fans an apology “from the bottom of [his] heart”.

He said: “Glasgow, I’m so sorry that I had to walk off after six songs and cancel the show.

“Most of the time, as singers, you can get through it if your voice is not 100%.

“But I walked out tonight thinking my voice is great, I maybe felt a little bit run down, but I didn’t think I couldn’t do the show or I wouldn’t have come out otherwise.

“As you can probably hear from my voice it just sounded rubbish.

“And it’s unfair for you guys who spent all that money to come and see me, you deserve the best show, and me being at my best.

“Hopefully I can recover from this.”

The 41-year-old, who was seeing a doctor before the concert, has now confirmed after medical checks that weekend gigs in Manchester and Birmingham have been cancelled.

This is after he contracted a respiratory infection.

An SEC spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, Olly Murs had to cut his performance short last night due to issues with his voice. Olly has now confirmed he is cancelling his Glasgow, Manchester and Birmingham shows and all customers should receive refunds from their point of purchase.

We wish Olly a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to The Hydro in the future.”

A statement from Olly Murs read: “30 minutes into my set in Glasgow I lost my voice & unfortunately had to leave the stage midway through the show. This has never happened before and not something I take lightly. I’m sorry to all the fans who came out to the show last night and am forever grateful for your support.

“To everyone in Manchester and Birmingham I’m deeply sorry, but am unfortunately going to have to cancel my shows this weekend.

“I have contracted a respiratory infection and have been instructed to go on a strict 48 hour voice rest by the doctor to ensure no further damage to my vocal cords. I have been enjoying this tour so much, and am so sorry to let down my fans – but have to put my health first. I’m hoping to be fighting fit in a few days to finish this amazing 15 year celebratory tour with a bang.”
