Omniplex announces plans for world's tallest cinema in Glasgow

The cinema complex is set to reopen in the mid-2026 after Cineworld was shut down following 20 years of business.

Irish chain Omniplex has announced it will move into the world’s tallest cinema in Glasgow.

The company announced it had taken ownership of the building on Renfrew Street, just months after Cineworld was evicted after 20 years of operations.

Omniplex announced that “extensive” renovations will begin in the coming months, with the cinema expected to reopen in the summer of 2026.

Renovations will include fully reclining auditoriums with upgraded laser projection and sound, as well as three giant “OmniplexMAXX” screens featuring Barco 4K Laser projection and Dolby Atmos sound.
