Over 100 Scottish jobs lost as fashion retailer Quiz enters administration Quiz

Fashion retailer Quiz said it has appointed administrators with 109 redundancies being made across the firm’s head office in Glasgow and warehouse in Lanarkshire.

The troubled retail group had been scrambling to secure its future in recent weeks after warning it could run out of cash in the first few months of 2025.

The company, which runs 62 stores and 47 concessions across the UK, has appointed insolvency practitioner Teneo as administrator to its wholly owned subsidiary, Zandra Retail Limited.

Additionally, Alistair McAlinden and Geoff Jacobs from Interpath have been appointed joint administrators for Orion Retail Limited, Tarak International Limited, and Zandra Systems Limited, which together trade as Quiz Clothing.

Founded in Scotland in 1993, Quiz employs around 565 staff members. Over the past year, the business faced difficult trading conditions.

The company said it struggled with changing consumer habits, rising business rates, and higher employment costs.

While sales were stronger than expected up to September 2025, they fell short during the crucial Christmas period.

The directors tried to secure funding to safeguard the company, but with no viable solution, they decided to place the business into insolvency.

The joint administrators plan to keep all stores and concessions open for trading, but the online store will close.

Most employees will be retained to support the business, though 109 head office and warehouse staff have been made redundant.

Alistair McAlinden, head of Interpath in Scotland and joint administrator, said: “With Quiz the latest retailer to fall into administration, there’s no doubt it’s been a tough start to 2026 for the UK high street.

“It’s our intention to continue to trade all stores and the concessions in Ireland as a going concern for as long as we can while we assess options for the business. We are tremendously grateful for the support of Quiz’s employees and directors who will work alongside us as we trade the business over the coming weeks.”

Geoff Jacobs, managing director at Interpath and joint administrator, added: “Any parties with an interest in acquiring the stock, store operations and infrastructure of Quiz should contact us as a matter of urgency. We are ensuring that those employees impacted by redundancy are provided with all available support at this difficult time.”
