More than 38,000 illegal cigarettes and hundreds of illicit vapes have been seized as part of a joint operation. with the help of a tobacco detection dog.
Police Scotland’s Greater Glasgow division raided four shops in Maryhill on Tuesday and discovered 38,000 illicit cigarettes, 2.5kg of tobacco and 600 illegal vapes.
In conjunction with Glasgow City’s Council Trading Standards team and HMRC, officers were aided by a tobacco detection dog in their search.
Glasgow’s only dog of that kind – named ‘Boo’ – was “happy to be in the thick of it as usual”, say the council.
A Police Scotland spokesperson added: “Maryhill LPST had a successful day of partnership working with GCC and The Society of Chief Officers of Trading Standards.
“Some great recoveries of illegal and unsafe vapes and tobacco.
“Our highly skilled four-legged friends are always happy to lend a nose.”
