Partick Thistle have revealed the preferred recipients of the shares held by majority shareholder Colin Weir.
The Glasgow club announced that the PTFC Trust has been chosen after discussions with the Jags Foundation broke down.
The PTCF Trust will now control just under 75% of the club’s shares after adding Weir’s 55% to the 19.28% they already held.
However some fans have reacted angrily to the news and say the group hasn’t engaged with the wider support enough before the decision was made.
But Thistle say they are “confident” that the group will provide a “strong representation for fans”.
Under the trust’s proposed model all adult season ticket holders will immediately become beneficiaries and custodians of 74.28% of the club with work being done to find a way to give non season ticket holders a voice.
The Partick Thistle FC board said: “We welcome this morning’s important announcement that the PTFC Trust is the preferred recipient for the majority shareholding in Thistle.
“After a long period of uncertainty, it’s good that the focus is firmly back on football going forward.
“The club board has already held a positive initial meeting with the Trust and looks forward to working closely with the fans’ representative body for the good of the club and supporters.”
The final decision will now rest with the SFA when the proposal it put to them by the club.
Colin Weir, who bought the shares after winning £161m on the EuroMillions lottery, died in December 2019.
