A pedestrian has died after being hit by a car on the M8 motorway near Glasgow Airport.

Emergency services were called to the motorway near Junction 29 around 11.45pm on Sunday after a man was hit by a black Mini Cooper.

A 45-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin has been made aware.

No other injuries were reported.

The road was closed to allow for investigations to be carried out and reopened just before 9am on Monday.

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.

Sergeant Jack Swindells said: “Our thoughts remain with the man’s family and friends at this difficult time, and our enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances.

“I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash and has yet to speak with officers to come forward.

“I’d also ask that those driving in the area at the time with dash-cam footage review this to see if it has captured anything that could assist with our investigation.”
