Pedestrian killed and woman arrested after two-car crash on St Vincent Street in Glasgow city centre

A pedestrian has been killed and a woman was arrested after a two-car crash that shut multiple roads in Glasgow city centre.

Police were called to St Vincent Street, near the M8, after receiving reports of a crash involving two cars and a pedestrian at around 7.40pm on Thursday.

A female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 28-year-old woman, the driver of one of the vehicles, was arrested in connection with the incident but has since been released pending further investigation.

The condition of the drivers is unknown at this stage.

The road was closed for around eight hours while collision investigation work was carried out.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 7.40pm on Thursday, February 2, 2023, officers received a report of a crash involving two vehicles and a pedestrian on St Vincent Street, Glasgow.

“Emergency services attended but the female pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The driver of one of the vehicles, a 28-year-old woman, was arrested in connection with the incident and released pending further enquiries.

“The road was closed while crash investigations were carried out and reopened around 3.15am.”

Police are appealing to anyone with information to get in contact.

Sergeant Jack Swindells of Glasgow Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the woman who died at this extremely difficult time.

“I’m appealing for anyone who saw what happened or who has dash cam footage of the area at the time to get in touch.

The fatal crash is the second this week to occur in Glasgow city centre after 22-year-old Emma Newman, from Moulineaux, Paris, was pronounced dead after being struck by an HGV in the city’s Broomielaw area on Monday.
