A 73-year-old motorcyclist has died from his injuries after a serious crash at a roundabout junction in Argyll and Bute.

The one-vehicle collision involving a green Yamaha motorbike happened on the A814 where it meets the A817 Hall Road just above Garelochhead at around 42.5pm on Monday, June 6.

The pensioner was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital with serious injuries.

On Friday, the 73-year-old died from his injuries.

Police Scotland said investigations into the incident were ongoing and appealed for any witnesses to come forward.

Sergeant Hugh Niccolls of Dumbarton Road Policing Unit said: “The motorcyclist was taken to hospital for treatment, where sadly he succumbed to injuries yesterday evening (Friday, June 17, 2022).

“Our thoughts are with his family and friends.

“Our investigations are continuing and anyone who witnessed the crash, should contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 2486 of Monday, June 6.”

The motorcyclist’s death is at least the fifth in four weeks amid a rise in serious crashes involving bikers.

A road policing initiative launched on the North Coast 500 route has seen marked and unmarked patrol cars deployed along the tourist route, along with motorcycle patrols and safety camera units.

On Friday, the force announced units in Fife, Forth Valley, the Lothians and Scottish Borders had launched Operation Dogma with officers will be patrolling across the areas from Saturday, June 18, in unmarked motorcycles with cameras to try and prevent further tragedies.
