A housing association plans to install CCTV cameras in a number of Toryglen streets to crack down on crime and anti-social behaviour.

Sanctuary Scotland has applied for planning permission to add the cameras to tackle problems including vandalism, fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour.

If given the go-ahead they will be erected at five sites on land at Drumreoch Drive, Prospecthill Crescent, 15 Prospecthill Crescent, Corlaich Avenue and Prospecthill Road.

An agent letter submitted as part of plans to Glasgow City Council said: “Sanctuary Scotland Housing Association have recently taken over the management of properties within the Toryglen area.

“As part of their ongoing management regime, our client is currently seeking to address a number of challenges in the locale, particularly in relation to fly tipping, vandalism, and anti-social behaviour.

“The proposed column-mounted CCTV cameras form part of our client’s strategy for addressing these issues.”

It added: “The proposed column-mounted CCTV cameras are to be installed in key locations that are experiencing anti-social behaviour, assisting in the detection and prevention of anti-social behaviour and crime, supporting our client’s aim to ensure that the Toryglen area is a safe and enjoyable place to live.”

The application is being considered by Glasgow City Council.
