Police are responding to reports of a “chemical leak” at an industrial estate in North Lanarkshire for the second time in just over a week.

Officers are in attendance on Cameron Street in Coatbridge and have cordoned off the area around Northburn Industrial Estate, eight days after responding to similar reports of a chemical leak.

Residents are asked to keep their windows closed while the substance is dealt with.

Police say there are no reported injuries and no wider risk to the public.

A large emergency service response including hazmat teams were called to a commercial premises on the same street on November 5.

Roads including Burnbank Street at Coltswood Road, Cromlet Drive and Northburn Industrial Estate reopened 19 hours after being closed.

Four people were treated at the scene last week.

A Police Scotland statement on Thursday read: “Officers are in attendance with partners at the Northburn Industrial Estate in the Cameron Street area of Coatbridge, following a report of a chemical leak.

“There are no reported injuries and no risk to the wider public.

“A cordon has been put in place and nearby residents are asked to keep their windows closed while the substance is dealt with.”
