Police have closed a major road in Ayrshire due to a “severe incident”.
The force released a statement through social media confirming that the A76 is closed in both directions at Castle, New Cumnock following a serious collision.
Local diversions have been put in place and drivers are being urged to find alternative routes at this time.
Traffic Scotland confirmed the road was shut due to a “serious collision”.
A spokesperson said: “Due to a severe incident, the A76 is closed in both directions at Castle, New Cumnock. Local Diversions will be in place shortly.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.35pm on Monday, September 18, police were called to a road crash at Castle Place, New Cumnock.
“Officers are at the scene and the road is closed.”
