Police Scotland have issued a statement following a reported “assault” that took place at Scotland’s first Popeyes restaurant.

The location opened on Monday, September 18, to a roaring response that had fans queuing for 18-and-a-half hours ahead of its launch.

The launch had people traveling across the country to get their hands on the famous fried chicken causing mass congestion in the areas surrounding the site.

On Monday, Police issued a statement asking all road users to be “courteous” and “follow the pecking order”.

While wait times and congestion have eased it Police have been forced to issue another statement regarding an incident at Barrhead’s Popeye’s.

The statement came after a video circulating on social media showed a staff member being punched in the face by a member of the public.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 4.15pm on Saturday, September 23, we were called to a report of a man being assaulted at Barrhead Retail Park, Glasgow Road, Barrhead.

“There are no reported injuries.

“Enquiries are ongoing.”
