Two cars deliberately set on fire in early morning 'reckless' act

Two cars were deliberately set on fire in the early hours of Saturday in what police have described as a “reckless” act.

The incidents occurred around 2.30am in George Street and Arthur Street in Stevenston, North Ayrshire. 

Emergency services raced to the scene and both fires were extinguished. 

Police said the two blazes were being treated as linked. 

Detective constable John Cuthbert said: “I would appeal to anyone who saw anything suspicious around the time of these fires to please speak with us.

“Fortunately, there were no injuries on this occasion, and extensive enquiries remain ongoing to trace those responsible for these reckless acts.

“Any drivers in the area at the time who use a dashcam, or any locals who may have home CCTV or doorbell footage, are asked to make contact if it could help with our investigation.”
