Police Scotland said it had been made aware of a hate crime incident during Elgin City vs Edinburgh City on Saturday.

Police are investigating a “despicable” hate crime which took place during an Elgin City vs Edinburgh City match.

The force said it is following a positive line of enquiry after a supporter approached a player from the sideline during the game on Saturday, August 23.

They say the incident is being treated as a hate crime and are appealing for anyone with information on those involved to get in touch.

Inspector Andy Meikleham, Elgin Police Office, said: “This was a despicable action and we are now following a positive line of enquiry.

“Anyone with information is asked to call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference CR/0358662/25.”
