Police raid 80 homes as manhunt continues following murder bid on two officers

Police hunting the man responsible for the attempted murder of two officers in Larkhall have searched more than 80 properties in a bid to find him.

Detectives believe the suspect is travelling through Lanarkshire, Glasgow and the Scottish Borders with the help of “associates”.

A woman has been arrested in connection with attempting to pervert the course of justice in relation to the investigation.

A manhunt was launched after a white Renault Traffic van was deliberately driven at officers on Glen Avenue around 2.10pm on July 25.

Two male officers, aged 41 and 43, were taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries. Both have since been discharged, although they will remain unfit for duty for a prolonged period.

As well as over 80 properties being searched, police say a significant amount of CCTV footage has been reviewed, and extensive door-to-door enquiries have been carried out, which has allowed police to track the man’s movements.

Detective Inspector Alister Thom said: “This act of violence left two police officers seriously injured and significant enquiries remain ongoing to trace the man responsible.

“We know he has been travelling throughout Lanarkshire, Glasgow and the Scottish Borders and know that he is being assisted by associates.

“If you know where he is, or have information which could assist us, I am urging you to do the right thing and contact us immediately in confidence.”

The woman arrested is due to appear at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Tuesday.
