A woman who challenged a man who had begun following a teenage girl and then got her home safely is being sought by police investigating the incident.
At around 3pm on Wednesday November 29, a 14-year-old girl was walking along Lochlea Drive in Ayr when a man who was unknown to her started following her and behaving in a suspicious manner.
A woman with blonde hair who was driving a white car saw what was happening, stopped her vehicle and challenged the man who made off from the scene.
The woman then made sure the girl got home safely.
The man is described as in his 50s, around 6ft tall, and was wearing a grey woolly hat, a long black jacket and black pointed shoes.
Police are carrying out enquiries to establish the full circumstances of the incident and say that the woman is a “key witness” in their investigation.
Constable Paul Edwards from Ayr police station said: “Thanks to the actions of this woman the teenage girl did not come to any harm and got home safely, however it was still an extremely frightening ordeal for her.
“Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and we are appealing for the woman, who is a key witness in our investigation, to please get in touch.
“We are also looking for any members of the public who saw what happened, or motorists with dash-cams who may have footage of the incident, to come forward.
“We understand incidents of this nature can cause concern in the local community and additional patrols are in the area carrying out enquiries and to provide reassurance.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident number 3419 of Wednesday November 29, 2023.”
