A probe has been launched after a scooter rider was “hit on the head” by a dropped breezeblock in Glasgow.
The 60-year-old man was in the Kelvin Walkway area of Maryhill, when he was assaulted by a group of youths at around 3.30pm on Monday.
Kevin McDermott claimed he would be “dead” had he not been wearing a safety hat at the time of the attack.
He told STV News: “I was puttering along Kelvin Walkway on my electric scooter and came to a tunnel over which runs a disused railway line.
“Some branches had been deliberately dragged across the entrance.
“I started to move the branches when a breezeblock caught right square on top of my head. I was wearing a helmet, or it could definitely have been ‘curtains’.
“The block was thrown from 30 feet above my head. I then called the Police.
“I saw them, four of them, they saw me, and I was furious at how callous they were. They must have been 14 to 15 years old. I got extremely vocal and they ran.
“At the time I felt fine, but later went to A&E where I was diagnosed with concussion and whiplash injury to my neck.”
Police Scotland confirmed that enquires were being carried out into the incident.
A police spokesperson said: “Officers were called around 3.30pm on Monday, May 2, 2022, to Kelvin Walkway in the Maryhill area of Glasgow, following reports of a man being assaulted by a group of youths.
“The 60-year-old wasn’t injured and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
