A fire on a railway line near gas cylinders in Oban is causing travel disruptions to train users.

Several nearby properties have been evacuated as firefighters tackle the blaze that broke out between Connel Ferry and Oban stations on Wednesday morning.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene on Mill Park road after the incident was reported at around 8.30am.

Emergency services are also in attendance, however there are no reports of any injuries.

The line between Oban and Connel Ferry is currently closed for safety reasons.

The 8.23am and 10.34am services from Glasgow Queen Street to Oban service are now terminating at Taynuilt and the 12.11pm and 2.41pm services from Oban to Queen Street will start at Taynuilt.

ScotRail has arranged for rail tickets to be accepted on CityLink bus on the 976: Glasgow – Arrochar & Tarbert – Dalmally – Loch Awe – Taynuilt – Connel – Oban routes.

The rail operator said: “We have a report of a lineside fire between Connel Ferry and Oban near a site which has gas cylinders. Scottish Fire and Rescue are onsite.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 8.23am on Wednesday to reports of a fire in Mill Park Road, Oban.

“Operations control mobilised two fire engines to the scene and firefighters are working to extinguish the fire. Crews will remain in attendance until the area is made safe.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 8.55am on Wednesday, police were made aware of a fire at a property in Millpark Road, Oban.

“A number of properties have been evacuated as a precaution. There are no reports of any injuries.

Emergency services remain on the scene.”
