Scots invited to 'step into Narnia' as late artist's home up for sale

Property hunters are being invited to “step into Narnia” as a renowned artist’s home has hit the market in Helensburgh.

Richard Dawson, who owned a gallery in the coastal town for almost 30 years and died in September 2021, lived in the three-bedroom upper floor property in Caldwell Place.

The late artist’s projects were influenced by the works of famed Italian painter, Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio.

His works included murals and paint effects, and can be seen in Harrods, Dior and in private residences in the the Channel Islands, Switzerland, Belgium and the Netherlands.

His smaller works adorn the walls of Highland castles and London townhouses.

While the property may not catch the eye from the outside, the interior of the home demonstrates Dawson’s Italian influence to maximum effect – with intricate stones and murals decorating the inside of the flat.

The property is being marketed by estate agents Property Bureau – who described entering the flat like “stepping into Narnia”.

Property Bureau say that potential buyers “may wish to upgrade the home to a more modern style”, though art enthusiasts might equally appreciate the fascinating decor.

An independent home report has valued the property at £120,000 – while Property Bureau are seeking offers of more than £115,000.
