More than 30 new affordable homes could be developed in Easterhouse provided proposals are given the green light by the council’s planning department.

Wheatley Group has asked MAST Architects to develop proposals for an affordable new build residential development for the derelict land at Lochend Road in Glasgow.

The land is within the Glasgow Local Development Plan for residential development and the proposals aim to provide affordable housing to rent in the area.

The houses, of which there will be 33, will be a mixture of two, three and four bedrooms and will be highly sustainable and energy efficient in a bid to minimise carbon footprint as well as reduce living costs for potential residents.

The application comes following proposals for 249 homes to be developed on the site opposite Lochend Road were withdrawn.

While parking on site is proposed for the new development, it will be unallocated apart from wheelchair accessible spaces which will be reserved for the ground floor cottage flat.

There will be 28 parking spaces, 26 of which will be provided with EV charging points.

Residents will benefit from the nearby Lochend Community High School which sports football facilities as well as a running track as well as a convenience store, post office, Indian takeaway and local community centre.

Oakwood Primary, St Benedict’s Primary and Lochview Nursery School are also situated in the area.

A planning statement submitted to the local authority reads: “Sited in the East End of Glasgow, the proposed development site at Lochend Road is within Glasgow City Council.

“The development site is located to the South of Bishop Loch which is one of the seven lochs that form the Seven Lochs Trail which links the likes of Drumpellier Country Park in Coatbridge to Hogganfield Park in Glasgow.

“The site itself is currently vacant and finds itself being used as a dumping ground.”

It continues: “By developing what is currently a long-standing derelict, brownfield site we aim to transform this into a place that the residents will be proud to call home.

“Not only will the newly built energy efficient homes help tackle fuel poverty directly for customers, the associated amenity spaces and communal greenspace will contribute to the improvement of the surrounding area.”
