A long-running ferry service has ceased operations with immediate effect.
For decades, the Renfrew to Yoker Ferry ran seven days a week between the north and south banks of the River Clyde.
However, passenger numbers have declined since the opening of a new bridge in the area, and staff announced on Saturday that it would no longer be running.
A statement released on X said: “Hi folks, you have probably been expecting this message. The ferry is closing effective immediately.
“Since the bridge opened, the passenger numbers have gone down, and this past week dropped to a level that it is no longer viable to keep running. We didn’t get funding, but only passenger fares kept us going.
“A huge thank you from us to all of you that used the ferry some of you every day. Many became personal friends.
“Yes, the bridge is a real pain when it’s unavailable sometimes for hours, but that’s just swinging bridge life, and those of us who live locally will get used to it.
“So goodbye for now from all the Renfrew to Yoker staff. It certainly is the end of an era. We will see you around!”
The Renfrew Bridge, which opened earlier this month, connects Meadowside Street in Renfrew and Dock Street in Yoker. It can open for passing ships as needed.
It marks the completion of the £117m Clyde Waterfront and Renfrew Riverside project, and authorities believe it will bring substantial economic benefits to the area.
