Residents told to keep windows closed after recycling centre fire

Residents have been urged to keep their windows and doors closed following a fire at a recycling centre in Glasgow.

The blaze broke out at the facility near to Bogmoor Road before 10.30am on Saturday.

In a statement issued just before midday Scottish Fire and Rescue said: “We currently have three fire appliances and a high reach vehicle in attendance at a fire affecting recycling centre near to Bogmoor Road, Glasgow.

“Due to high levels of smoke in the area, we advise nearby residents to keep windows and doors closed.”

All four vehicles were still in attendance on Saturday afternoon.

Chris Mitchell from the GMB union posted a video of material on fire at the site.

Glasgow City Council said: “Shieldhall Recycling Centre is currently closed (26 September) following a fire on site.

“We will provide an update as soon as it reopens. Please do not travel to the site and use alternative recycling centre locations at this time

“Thanks for your patience.”
