A teenager has been left seriously injured after he was struck by van on the A75 on Friday.
Emergency services were called to the section of road near Carsluith at around 10.15pm following reports of a white Ford Transit van knocking down an 18-year-old male.
The teenager was transported to hospital for treatment to serious injuries. He has since been transferred to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.
Officers traced the Ford Transit van, a short time later, on the A75 near to Benfield, Newton Stewart. The 28-year-old male driver and 33-year-old male passenger were uninjured.
The driver was arrested in connection, however, he has since been released pending further enquiries.
Detectives have established that the 18-year-old, who was with a friend, had stopped to speak to the occupants of a vehicle on the A75 road prior to the collision and officers are appealing to the occupants of this vehicle to contact them.
The road was closed until 8.45am the following morning to allow for a collision investigation to be carried out.
Sergeant Wayne Carnochan said: “We are in the process of piecing together the circumstances of this incident. A young man has been seriously injured and it’s important we find out what happened to him.
“I would urge the occupants of the vehicle that was on the road at the time to get in touch with us. I’m sure the information they have will prove significant in our enquiries.”
