A road has reopened after a schoolgirl was hit by a car in North Ayrshire.

Middleton Road in Irvine was closed after an 11-year-old girl was hit by a car at around 5pm on Tuesday.

Emergency services attended, and the girl was taken to the Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow for treatment.

The driver of the car was not injured.

Officers reopened the road at around 7pm.
