Roads in Glasgow are expected to remain closed after a burst water main caused a sinkhole.

Emergency services were called to Calder Street around 2.40pm on Thursday after the hole was discovered.

Road closures were put in place at Cathcart at Allison Street, Bankhall at Hollybrook and Hickman at Calder Street.

Scottish Water has confirmed that the sinkhole was caused by a burst water main, with work being carried out to repair the issue.

A spokesperson said: “Scottish Water are aware that a burst water main caused the sinkhole on Calder Street and understand the disruption this has had for residents, businesses and road users. Scottish Water apologises for the inconvenience and thanks customers and road users for their patience and understanding while we carry out these works.

“Our teams have now located and repaired the pipe, and we are continuing to work with our traffic management partners and local authorities to manage the area safely while final reinstatement is carried out over the weekend.”
