A Royal Navy veteran is unveiling a song from Edinburgh in support of injured ex-service members.
The singer/songwriter is launching Invictus – Captain Of My Soul to shine a light on the challenges facing his comrades.
He is launching the single from Edinburgh as he rejoins a 2,000-mile maritime expedition.
The Full Circle voyage is carrying a special flag ahead of the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 and its one-year-to-go milestone at the NEC in July 2026.
Will Keating said his new song is a tribute to “perseverance, inner strength, and the unbreakable human spirit”.
“I wanted the song to reflect not only the spirit of the original Invictus poem (by William Ernest Henley) but also the lived experiences of veterans who have faced adversity and emerged stronger,” Mr Keating said.
“As patron of Turn to Starboard, I’ve had the privilege of witnessing first-hand the resilience and determination of veterans rebuilding their lives. This song is my way of honouring their incredible journeys.”
The Full Circle expedition is crewed by 70 wounded, injured and sick veterans in five rotating legs.
The 12-week journey will see the two traditionally rigged tall ships, Spirit of Falmouth and Pellew, circumnavigate the UK.
During his service in the Royal Navy, Mr Keating experienced the loss of a close friend while deployed.
Years later, following the devastating death of his foster son, he recognised he had never fully processed his grief.
He says that joining Full Circle marks an important step in addressing his trauma and supporting others facing similar challenges.
Founded by the Duke of Sussex in 2014, the Invictus Games is an international adaptive sporting event supporting the recovery and rehabilitation of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans.
The Full Circle voyage is raising £300,000 to help veteran sailing charity Turn to Starboard.
