Trains between Carstairs and Glasgow Central were cancelled after a person was found dead on the track.

Emergency services were called to the line near Carstairs at around 7.15am on Monday.

Police, fire and paramedics attended, however, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.

Network Rail confirmed at around 7.30am on Monday that all lines were blocked, with trains running to and from the stations subject to delays and cancellations.

ScotRail said services passing through Carluke were being delayed or revised while emergency services dealt with the incident.

The operator has not confirmed the nature of the incident. Disruption is expected to continue until the lines can reopen.

Passengers are advised to check for updates before travelling.

A British Transport Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Carluke station at around 7.15am this morning, Monday, February 16, following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”
