Rush hour services cancelled after train 'breaks down'

A number of rush hour services in Glasgow have been cancelled due to a “broken down” train.

Passengers are facing disruption on Wednesday morning after reports of a train having broken down at Shawlands affecting travel in to Glasgow Central.

Services such Central and Newton via Kings Park have been cancelled and are subject to delays and alterations.

Trains running to Cathcart Inner Circle via Maxwell Park may also face cancellations, delays and alterations.

Passengers travelling between Glasgow Central and Newton may use alternative services between Dalmuir and Larkhall and between Milngavie and Cumbernauld/Motherwell.

ScotRail said on X: “We’re currently dealing with a broken-down train at Shawlands, staff are currently trying to fault find.”

National Rail said: “A broken down train at Shawlands is causing disruption to journeys running between Glasgow Central and Langside.

“As a result, trains may be cancelled or revised. Disruption is expected until 9am.”
