A primary school in Glasgow has paid tribute to a pregnant teacher who was found dead in a property on Tuesday morning.
The body of Marelle Sturrock, 35, was discovered in a home on Jura Street in the Craigton area of the city shortly after 8.40am on April 25.
Her death is being treated as suspicious and enquiries are ongoing, police have confirmed.
Officers have also been carrying out a large-scale search at Mugdock Country Park for a missing person, which the force have said is linked to Ms Sturrock’s death.
STV News understands the man police are searching for is Ms Sturrock’s fiance, David Yates.
Fiona Donnelly, headteacher at Sandwood Primary School paid tribute to Ms Sturrock and her dedication to the children and school on Thursday.
She said: “Marelle has been a much-loved member of our school community since her probationary year more than six years ago and has taught many year groups throughout her time at the school.
“We will all miss her so much.
“She was a lovely, kind, diligent and considerate person who loved and made time for everyone.”
On Thursday morning, flowers were left at the school gates by pupils in the city’s southside.
Ms Donnelly added that Ms Sturrock used her artistic talents across the school and was the “music champion” who had been a key player in the success of the school choirs; with one of her classes going to see her on stage at The King’s in one of her many acting roles outside of school.
Ms Donnelly added: “We are a school community in mourning and are devastated by the tragic news of her death and pass on our deepest condolences to her family and friends as we all come to terms with our loss.”
Ms Sturock was from the Scottish Highlands, but moved to Glasgow when she was 17 to pursue a career in the performing arts.
She later became a primary school teacher after completing her post graduate diploma in education.
Detective chief inspector Cheryl Kelly said: “Our thoughts are with Marelle’s family and friends, as well as everyone affected by this tragic incident.
“We are providing her family with support at this incredibly difficult time as our investigation to establish the full circumstances continues.”
She added that a visible police presence would remain at both Jura Street and Mugdock Country Park as work continues.
There is not believed to be any risk to the wider public but anyone with information or concerns are urged to contact Police Scotland on 101, quoting incident 0904 of April 25 or speak to officers.
