ScotRail travel chaos after person hit by train between Glasgow and Croy

Passengers were facing travel chaos on Thursday night after a person was hit by a train between Glasgow Queen Street and Croy.

All lines between the two stations were closed from about 10.35pm until reopening in the early hours of Friday morning.

“Due to emergency services dealing with an incident in the Croy area, services via here will be subject to disruption,” ScotRail told customers.

Areas impacted included Aberdeen, Alloa, Dundee, Edinburgh, Inverness, Stirling and Glasgow Queen Street.

ScotRail said ion Thursday night that t was struggling to find replacement bus services and encouraged passengers to make their own way home.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police said: “Police were called to the line near Lenzie on Thursday at around 10.25pm following reports of a person struck by a train.

“Paramedics also attended, but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the Procurator Fiscal.”

Further disruption on Friday

ScotRail said there continued to be major disruption to its services on Friday following bad weather and the discovery of a damaged overhead line.

Network Rail said it discovered the issue at Westerton just before 4am on Friday.

The North Clyde and Argyle Line is impacted with Balloch to Airdrie, Dalmuir to Larkhall and Milngavie and Milngavie to Springburn services seeing disruption.

ScotRail said the Kilmarnock, Dumfries and Carsile lines are also facing issues with the Glasgow and Dumfries to Carlisle trains affected.

Passengers are urged to check their journey ahead of time.
