ScotRail warns Ed Sheeran fans over no trains from Hampden to Glasgow city centre after gig

ScotRail has reminded passengers of the emergency timetable in place this week ahead of Ed Sheeran’s two-night performance at Hampden.

The singer is due to bring the first leg of his ‘+ – = ÷ x’ tour – pronounced ‘mathematics’ – to the national football stadium on Thursday and Friday.

But fans face a disrupted journey back to Central and Queen Street Stations, with no rail services from Mount Florida after the gig and limited onward routes available thereafter.

The last train from Mount Florida to Glasgow Central will call at 8.46pm on both Thursday and Friday.

The national rail operator – which is set to continue its emergency timetable while drivers’ union Aslef votes on a revised pay offer of 5% – warned passengers to “plan in advance”.

Hundreds of services have been cut over the past few weeks after drivers refused to work overtime or on rest days after receiving a “derisory” wage increase of 2.2%.

The union is set to vote on the increase later this week, but those using rail services are still expected to face disruption in the meantime.

A ScotRail statement read: “If you’re going to Ed Sheeran at Hampden Park this week plan your journeys in advance. ScotRail is adding extra carriages to as many trains as possible from Central to Mount Florida & Kings Park, the closest stations to Hampden, from midday until Ed Sheeran is due on stage.

“Buy tickets in advance via the mTicket system on the ScotRail app to reduce queues at Glasgow Central on the day.

“There will be no trains from Mt Florida to Central after the gigs due to the temporary timetable and only a few trains will run out of Glasgow city centre after 11pm.”

Late Glasgow timetable for Thursday and Friday:

11.17pm Glasgow Central to East Kilbride.

11.22pm Glasgow Central to Stirling.

11.30pm Glasgow Central to Ayr.

11.45pm Glasgow Queen St to Edinburgh Waverley.
