iStockScots were woken to “loud bangs” on Wednesday morning after an earthquake was recorded in the early hours in Argyll and Bute.
The British Geological Survey (BGS), confirmed there was an earthquake at around 3.03am on Wednesday, recording a magnitude of 2.2 on the Richter scale.
BGS said the earthquake was recorded 5km east of Oban in Argyll and Bute.
Residents reported feeling their “house shake” and hearing “loud rumblings”.
One person who commented in a local Facebook group reported hearing “quite a rumble up Longsdale Road as well, my door was squeaking and window rattling”.
It comes just a few weeks after seismic activity was recorded in Kinloch on January 5 around 8.44pm, recording a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale.
Callum Harrison, seismologist at the British Geological Survey, said: “At 3.03am on Wednesday, February 5 there was a 2.2 magnitude earthquake 5km east of Oban, within the Argyll and Bute area of Scotland.”
