New pictures have been released of one of Scotland’s most high-profile gangland figures following his arrest in Bali.

Steven Lyons was apprehended at the city’s I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport by immigration officers on Saturday.

Ngurah Rai Immigration Office said the 45-year-old, whom it only identifies by his initials, had arrived in Bali on a flight from Singapore.

Upon immigration checks, Lyons was flagged as the subject of an Interpol Red Notice and taken into custody.

It comes after police in Scotland and Spain carried out a series of dawn raids on Friday. The operation targeted alleged members of the Lyons crime group.

The gang is suspected of running a prolific criminal network involved in the transport of large quantities of drugs, including hundreds of kilograms of cocaine, into Scotland.

Steven Lyons is a high-ranking member of the group, which has been locked in a war with the Daniels gang for more than two decades.

In a statement, the head of the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, said that “Bali will never be a safe haven for international fugitives.

“Our systems are well-integrated, and our officers are highly experienced in detecting and apprehending Interpol fugitives.”

Meanwhile Felucia Sengky Ratna, head of the Bali Regional Office of the Directorate General of Immigration, said: “This success demonstrates that the immigration surveillance system in Bali is effective, integrated, and responsive to transnational threats.”
