A great-great grandmother celebrating her 105th birthday has revealed the secret to old age is ‘to work hard all your life’.
Isabel Whittingham from Motherwell has lived through a world war, the launch of television, 23 prime ministers and five monarchs.
She has 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.
And it may not be the answer some of us wish to hear, but Isabel’s secret to a long life is to work hard.
She told STV News: “There’s no secret, it’s just that I’ve worked hard, worked hard all my life. But that’s it, nothing to it.
“Just be happy and try and be good and be happy.”
Grandson Gerard Dillon said: “There’s grandsons and granddaughters, great-grandsons, great-granddaughters, great-great grandchildren… and I think there might be another one after that, almost seven generations!”
Granddaughter Lisa Carroll added: “She can’t believe she’s 105, she keeps saying ‘What age am I?’ and we’re like ‘105’ and she’s like ‘no!’.
