A search has been launched after a person on a ferry fell overboard on Sunday.

The Western Ferries service between Gourock and Dunoon alerted the coastguard to the incident at around 1.45pm.

CalMac has confirmed that their MV Ali Cat was called to assist with the search and all services have been suspended in the area.

A Coastguard helicopter has been dispatched to conduct a search alongside rescue teams from Largs and Dunoon.

RNLI lifeboats from Helensburgh and Largs have also been mobilised. Vessels in the area have also been asked to assist with the search.

Police Scotland confirmed they have received reports of concern for a person.

A Coast guard spokesperson said: “HM Coastguard are responding to reports of a person overboard between the Hunter’s Quay and Gourock area in Scotland.

“An HM Coastguard search and rescue helicopter has been tasked to conduct a search, alongside coastguard rescue teams from Largs and Dunoon, in addition to RNLI lifeboats from Helensburgh and Largs.

“Nearby vessels have been called to assist. Police Scotland and Scottish Ambulance Service are also in attendance. The situation is ongoing.”

A spokesperson from CalMac said: “MV Ali Cat is currently assisting the coastguard with person overboard reported from Western Ferries. Sailings between Gourock-Dunoon are suspended until further notice.”

The Coastguard and RNLI have been contacted for comment.
