A second teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of schoolboy Amen Teklay in Glasgow.

The 15-year-old was found with serious wounds believed to have been inflicted with a blade on Clarendon Street on March 5.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.

A major investigation was launched and Police Scotland said it was treating the death as murder following a post-mortem.

On Sunday, officers confirmed a 16-year-old boy had been arrested and charged in connection with the death.

On Monday, the 16-year-old appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court charged with murder, while acting with another.

It is claimed the 16-year-old, while in possession of a frying pan, “punched or otherwise struck Amen Teklay on the body”.

The charge further alleges that the boy struck Amen on the body with a knife and murdered him.

The 16-year-old made no plea at a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

He was represented by his lawyer Martin Hughes.

The boy was remanded by Sheriff Vincent Lunny and will next appear in court within eight days.

He is the second teenager to be charged with Amen’s murder, after a 14-year-old boy also appeared in court charged with murder and assault on March 10.

An additional charge claims he was in possession of a knife in the city’s Dumbarton Road area three days before Amen’s death.

He made no plea and was remanded in custody.

A 15-year-old boy, also arrested in connection with the death, appeared in court facing a separate assault charge.

The 15-year-old is accused of being in possession of a barrier pole at the same time or place. He also made no plea and was granted bail.
