A second 12-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with a building fire in Kilmarnock.
Emergency services were called to a “well-developed” fire at a four-storey building on Sandbed Street around 9am on Monday.
Six fire engines and two specialist units tackled the blaze which destroyed several businesses and left the town’s high street out of bounds to the public.
Police have arrested and charged two 12-year-old boys in connection with the fire. Both will appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court at a later date.
Two 11-year-old boys have also been traced in connection, and reports will be submitted to the relevant authorities.
The second arrest comes on the same day East Ayrshire Council confirmed the completion of phase 1 demolition of the building destroyed in the blaze.

The local authority said it hopes surrounding businesses on King Street will be able to open once the work is complete.
Police Scotland confirmed the site is no longer being treated as a crime scene.
