A serial rapist who attacked a teenage girl and woman within 13 months has been jailed for seven years.

Steven Agnew, 20, preyed on his victims at flats in Glasgow’s Cranhill and Johnstone, Renfrewshire, between November 2020 and December 2021.

The High Court in Glasgow heard that the day before the rape took place, Agnew attacked the 14-year-old girl in Rannoch Woods, Johnstone.

Agnew, of Paisley, Renfrewshire, seized her by the neck, pulled her to the ground then restrained her. He then sexually assaulted her.

The following day, Agnew seized the girl by her wrist and pulled her to the ground. He restrained her and then raped her.

In the second incident, Agnew assaulted the woman before raping her.

Agnew was found guilty of two rape charges and a sexual assault.

Raymond McIlwham, defending, told the court: “It is recognised that he is convicted of very serious offences.”

Judge Louise Arrol KC imposed an extended sentence upon Agnew who was told that he presents as a “risk to the public.”

Agnew was ordered to spend seven years behind bars and will be put under supervision for a further two years upon his release.

The judge said: “In a victim impact statement from one of your victims, it is said that her mental health, education and confidence has been significantly affected.

“You were an emotionally immature young man at the time of the offences and I take account that you suffered difficulties in your mental health and upbringing.

“None of these excuses your crimes and will not help the young women which you harmed.”

Agnew was put on the sex offenders register for an indefinite period.

An indefinite non-harassment order was also imposed which prohibits Agnew from contacting his victims.
