Six men and a teenager have been arrested in connection with serious violence in Lanarkshire and Ayrshire.

Officers were first called to a report of a disturbance in Caldercruix Road, Airdrie, around 3.30pm on November 4.

The second incident occurred at around 3.50pm on November 6, when officers attended following a report of a disturbance just off the A76 at Bowhouse roundabout in Kilmarnock.

Following inquiries, police arrested and charged a 23-year-old man with the Kilmarnock incident – he appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on November 22.

On the same date, another 23-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with both incidents – he appeared at Airdrie Sheriff Court on November 22 and at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court the next day.

On November 27, a 22-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with both incidents.

He appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on November 28 in connection with the Ayrshire incident, and at Airdrie Sheriff Court on November 29 in connection with the Lanarkshire incident.

Also on November 27, a 23-year-old man and a 21-year-old man were arrested and charged in connection with the Ayrshire incident and both appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on November 28.

Following further enquiries, officers attended at a number of addresses in Wishaw, Shotts, Larkhall and Strathaven on November 29.

As a result, two people – a 28-year-old man and a 15-year-old boy – were arrested in connection with the Ayrshire incident.

The police investigation to trace all those responsible continues.

Chief inspector Graeme McLaughlin said: “A number of arrests have been made in connection with these serious incidents in Lanarkshire and Ayrshire following a robust police investigation into violence.

“I would like to reassure the public that incidents of violence are taken extremely seriously and detailed investigations will always be carried out to trace those responsible.

“This kind of behaviour is not acceptable in our communities.”
