A shopkeeper has been left injured after being assaulted during an attempted robbery in Ayrshire.
The 62-year-old man was working in a shop on Samson Avenue, Kilmarnock, when the incident took place on Saturday.
At around 7.30pm another man entered the premises before demanding money and threatening the victim who then assaulted before leaving empty handed.
Emergency services attended and the injured man was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment.
Police are appealing for the public’s help as they look to trace the man responsible for the attack.
The suspect is describes as being around 6ft with a local accent and he was wearing black trousers with a black hooded top and black jacket.
Detective Sergeant Sarah Holland, of Kilmarnock CID, said: “This was a frightening experience for the shopkeeper and has resulted in him sustaining an injury.
“Enquiries are at an early stage, and although this was an isolated incident, additional patrols will be continued in the area.
“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident who may have witnessed what happened, or any motorists who were in the area with dash cam footage, to please come forward.”
