'The best of Scottish cinema' to return to big screen over summer

Showcase Cinemas in Glasgow and Paisley will screen seven films as part of its Local Heroes season

The best of Scottish cinema is being celebrated at cinemas across the west of the country.

Showcase Cinemas in Glasgow and Paisley will see some of Scotland’s most beloved films – from cult comedies to legendary action epics – return to the big screen this summer as part of its Local Heroes season.

The limited run will see a new title screened every Friday and Wednesday until early July and features classic Scottish movies like Orphans, Braveheart and Local Hero. 

The full Local Heroes line-up includes:

  • Local Hero – From May 22nd
  • Orphans – From May 29th
  • Sunshine on Leith – From June 5th
  • Braveheart (30th Anniversary) – From June 12th
  • The Rock – From June 19th
  • Billy Connolly: Big Banana Feet – From June 26th
  • Dog Soldiers – From July 3rd

Jon Dixon, UK marketing director at Showcase Cinemas, said: “Scotland has produced some truly iconic films over the years, and Local Heroes is all about celebrating those stories back on the big screen.

“Local Heroes gives audiences the chance to rediscover cult classics or even experience them for the first time, the way they were meant to be seen – on the big screen.”
