Shoppers and commuters venturing into Glasgow city centre and west end on Saturday have been warned to expect ‘significant disruption’ as a pro-independence march takes place.
Thousands of independence supporters are expected to attend the parade that begins at 11am at Kelvingrove Park before ending at Glasgow Green.
Several roads in between have been closed to accommodate the march.
These include Kelvin Way, Gibson Street, Eldon Street, Woodlands Road, Sauchiehall Street, Pitt Street, Blythswood Square, West George Street, Renfield Street, Union Street, Jamaica Street, Clyde Street and the Saltmarket.
Police say anyone travelling or visiting the area should expect disruption up until 5pm on Saturday.
A statement from Glasgow City Council’s Traffic Control and Management (TRAFFCOM) team read: “Due to a parade on Saturday 11 January 2020, there will be a number of roads restricted between the times of 8am until approximately 5pm.
“Roads will be restricted between Kelvin Way and Glasgow Green.
“Police have confirmed Transport Scotland will be closing a number of off ramps from the M8 and gantries will display closures / restrictions.”
The march comes as Boris Johnson refuses to grant the Scottish Government the right to hold IndyRef2 this year despite the SNP winning a landslide of Scottish seats in December’s general election.
