A snake has been found trapped in an unsuspecting family’s oven in North Lanarkshire.
The reptile, a corn snake which has since been named Cob, was spotted in the oven tray of the brand new household appliance.
The Scottish SPCA was called and an inspector dismantled the oven to retrieve the trapped creature, before it was hurt.
Cob has since been taken to one of the charity’s rescue and rehoming centres.
Animal rescue officer Louise Hume said: “Only about six inches of the snake was visible on the oven tray, the rest was hidden somewhere inside the oven.
“With assistance from my colleague, inspector Jack Marshall, and the member of the public we were able to take the oven apart and rescue the snake.
“Thankfully the oven was new and the family spotted the snake before it was turned on so it was uninjured after its ordeal.
“Neither we, nor the family have any idea how the snake came to be in the appliance.
“The snake has now been taken to one of our rescue and rehoming centres where it’s receiving the care it needs from our dedicated team.
“The team have named the reptile, who is around two-and-a-half feet long, Cob.”
