Strathclyde University professor sacked over student sexual harassment claims

A professor at Strathclyde University has been sacked following allegations that he sexually harassed female students.

Dr Ibrahim Khadra was a lecturer in Pharmaceutical Science based in Glasgow until his recent dismissal following an internal investigation.

Khadra, who is originally from Palestine, claimed he lost more than 70 family members due to the war in Gaza in an interview with STV News in 2023.

In a statement, Strathclyde University confirmed that Khadra had been dismissed following sexual harassment allegations by female students.

The university commended those who had come forward to report Khadra’s conduct and would be providing support to them.

A spokesperson said: “The safety and well-being of our students and staff are paramount, and we take all allegations of this nature extremely seriously.

“The University suspended the staff member as soon as we became aware of the allegations and, following a full investigation, the individual was dismissed. The University has provided ongoing support to those affected and will continue to do so.

“We recognise the courage it takes for anyone to come forward, and where they do, they will be heard and supported.

“We have a dedicated Report & Support service which is fully available to students and staff to report safeguarding concerns.”

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We have received a report relating to inappropriate communication. Enquiries are ongoing.”
