SNS GroupA master’s student caught with a gun after a row at a house party has walked free from court.
Xinhang Lyu, 22, was caught with the air pistol outside a property in Glasgow’s Yorkhill last February 15.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Lyu had been at a party with six others whom he did not know.
The hearing was told that there was an argument between the University of Glasgow’s Lyu and another man.
Lyu made reference to a gun in his car, which he had been given by a friend in Manchester earlier that week.
Prosecutor Heather Naismith said: “He stated he was going out to his car and was pointing at [the man] aggressively.
“[A witness] followed him to the car, in which he went into a box and took out the gun.
“[She] was concerned he was going to go into the flat with it and tried to reason with him to prevent it.”
Police arrived at the scene and spotted the woman struggling with Lyu, who appeared intoxicated.
Officers could see the gun in his hand, with the woman holding on to his arm.
An officer drew a taser and shouted at him to drop the gun, while the woman was ordered to step away.
The court heard how Lyu continued to wave the gun, and an officer ran at him to try and disarm him. He then dropped the gun and was arrested.
Lyu, of the city’s Partick, spent four months on remand for the matter as well as six months on a tag.
The first offender appeared in the dock to plead guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner.
Lyu, a Chinese national, also admitted having an air pistol in a public place without a reasonable excuse.
Sheriff Iain Fleming admonished Lyu at sentencing.
